Terms of use
The agreement between you and the company that runs Mahjongg School, written to be read. By using the site you agree to it; if you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. Who you are agreeing with
Mahjongg School is run by ECAI, LLC, a Virginia company ("we", "us"). "The school" means the website at mahjonggschool.com and mahjonggschool.org, the table, the lessons and drills, the clubs, groups and tournaments run on it, and anything we add later under the same name.
2. Your account
You sign in with a link we send to your email address; there is no password. Because anyone who can read your email can sign in as you, you are responsible for:
- keeping your email account secure;
- everything done while signed in as you;
- giving an email address that is yours, and a display name that does not pretend to be somebody else;
- telling us at once through the feedback page if you think somebody else has been signing in as you.
One account is for one person. A club, a class or a center that wants several people at the school uses the club and organization plans, not a shared account.
3. Age
The school is not meant for anyone under 13, and you may not make an account if you are under 13. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian's permission to buy a plan.
4. How to behave here
You agree not to:
- break any law while using the school;
- harass, abuse, threaten or demean another player, host or teacher;
- post anything false, misleading, hateful, sexual or spam in a name, a club page, a review, a listing or a message;
- pretend to be another person, or to speak for the school or for the National Mah Jongg League;
- interfere with the site, overload it, or try to reach any part of it you have not been given;
- use a program to play for you at a table with other people, or to collect pages from the site in bulk.
No tolerance for abuse. Tell us about any person, name, page or message through the feedback page. A person reads every report, and we act on it within 24 hours: we remove what breaks these terms, and we suspend or close the account behind it.
5. Published cards
The school writes its own practice cards and you may play them freely. It does not reproduce or hand out the National Mah Jongg League card or any other published card. A published card plays at the school only for a person who says they own the printed card for that year. Answer that question truthfully: saying you own a card you do not own breaks these terms. We never ask for a copy of your card.
6. What you put on the site
Club pages, reviews, card market listings, photos, names and the games you choose to share or publish stay yours. By putting them on the school you let us show, store and copy them for running the school, worldwide and without payment, for as long as they are here. A game published to the library is shown with made-up names for every seat, and you can take it off again.
The school's lessons, drills, practice cards, pictures, software and the name Mahjongg School belong to ECAI, LLC. You may quote and link to them; you may not copy them wholesale or use our name or look as if they were yours.
7. Paying
- Who takes the payment. Card payments go through Stripe. We never see or keep your card number.
- The beta. While the school is in beta, plans are not charged. We will say on the pricing page and by email before charging begins.
- Renewal. A plan is paid at the start of each period and renews by itself until you cancel. You can cancel any time from your account settings, and you keep what you paid for until the end of the period.
- Refunds. A period already paid is not refunded, except where the law requires it, or where we close the school or a plan in the middle of a period, when we refund the part you have not used.
- Price changes. A new price applies from your next renewal, never to a period you have already paid, and we tell you by email before it does.
- Tax. Prices are in US dollars, and tax is added where it applies.
8. Hosts, teachers and sellers
Clubs, tournament directors, teachers and card market sellers run their own clubs, events, lessons and listings, and they are responsible for them and for following the law. When you pay one of them through the school, the payment goes to them through Stripe, and the school keeps a fee that is shown before you pay. Questions about a lesson, an event or an item go to the person who offered it first; if that does not settle it, write to us and we will help.
9. The advice
The Coach, the report cards and the drills are teaching. They show the move the school's player would make and why; they are not a promise that the move wins, and they can be wrong.
10. Other terms that may apply
A center or community on a site license is covered by the organization terms, and an affiliate by the affiliate terms. Where one of those says something different from this page, it wins for that agreement. How we handle personal information is on the privacy page.
11. No warranty, and the limit of our liability
The school is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, as far as the law allows. We work to keep it running and correct, and we do not promise that it will always be available or free of mistakes.
To the fullest extent the law allows, ECAI, LLC is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits or data, arising from your use of the school. Our total liability for any claim about the school is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars if you paid nothing. Some places do not allow these limits, and there they apply only as far as the law allows.
12. Ending
You can stop at any time, and you can delete your account from your account settings. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, and we will tell you why. When an account is closed, the right to use it ends; sections 6, 11 and 14 keep applying.
13. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. The date at the bottom says when they last changed, and we email members before a change that matters to them takes effect. Using the school after a change means you accept the new terms.
14. Law, and talking first
These terms are governed by the law of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States. We would both rather talk than litigate: if something goes wrong, write to us first and give us thirty days to put it right.
15. Contact
Questions about these terms go to [email protected] or through the feedback page, and a person answers.
