Reading your own rack

How to look at thirteen tiles and pick a hand to build.

Do this lesson at the table 4 minutes, 6 steps

Suits together

The passing is over and it is your throw. In a lesson your rack keeps the suits together and the numbers rising: Bams, Craks, Dots, then winds, dragons, flowers, jokers. Most hands on the card are one or two suits, so the suit you hold most of is usually the one to build in.

Your pairs and three of a kinds

Circled in gold are the pairs and three of a kinds you already hold. Hands that want those groups are the ones you are closest to.

The card list does the counting

The gold-circled list on the right puts the hand you are closest to first and says how many tiles away you are. Five away is a plan. Nine away is a wish. Keep the tiles the plan uses and throw the rest.

The numbers

Two buttons under your tiles are for learning, both circled in gold. Press The numbers: it says exactly where you stand. Then press Suggest a throw: the table rings the tile it would throw and says why. Use them while you learn.

Change your mind

Your plan changes as tiles come and go. If the tiles you need are all in the middle already, that plan is dead: pick another. Good players keep two plans that share tiles and let the draws decide.

Turn the help down

Watch the table open the Menu at the top, then Table settings. The gold-circled setting, How much the table works out for you, is the help. Full ranks the hands and marks the tiles each uses. Card only shows the card as printed. No card hides it, like a real table. Start with Full and work toward No card.
